I think the photos of the lake and nature will be especially nice
for those residents who aren't able to get out much. These were taken
last summer and fall. The bees were buzzing around our flowering bushes
and were so covered with pollen they looked like little teddy bears.
The thrid bee pic was a little grainy, but I thought it was worth
a shot. The sunset was taken as you go out the back gate of Heritage
Lake. The praying mantis was a rather large one that my husband noticed
in the zinnias. When you zoom in close to something like that, it
almost looks like a creature from Mars or something. The robin's nest
was in our pear tree, and since the branch it was on was higher than
my head, I couldn't see if there were eggs in it or not, so I held
the camera over the nest and took this shot blind. One morning last
summer, this large Lunar Moth was cliging to the screen of our kitchen
window. It stayed there for a few hours, then finally dropped down
below. When we went outside to look for it, we walked right past it
three times before we saw it. The markings over the top edge of its
wings blended in so effectively with the twigs and grass near it.
A friend of mine who is a photographer said it was rare to get a good
photo of a Lunar Moth because they are usually only out at night and
hard to spot. (I'm not sure about that since I've never really looked
for one.) The photo of the woodpecker was not real clear since it
was taken through the sliding glass doors onto our back deck. This
woodpecker would just sit like this on the deck rail looking in the
back door. I've never seen a bird sit like this before! It was pretty
comical!
Thanks again for adding the page for photos. I hope you get lots of
submissions and everyone enjoys it!
Sincerely,
Jeanie Burris
