The second
annual Heritage Lake 5K Fall Classic started off
about 20 degrees warmer than the year before at 8:00 in the
morning when the group met to set things set up for race day.
Having coffees (or caffeinated beverages of choice) in hand,
we all met, divvied out the work and went on our way. From
putting out the street blockers, putting up signs, getting
the chairs/tables set at the pavilion to starting up the food
all the volunteers were excited about the events later in
the day.
We couldn't ask for a more perfect day. Sky was picturesque,
leaves were colorful and the weather was about perfect for
a fall afternoon. Our runners had some record times and some
good times after the race. We didn't need to start up the
bon fire for warmth early on this year either.
The trophies were custom made by a Heritage Lake native.
They were carved out leaves with different wood indicating
the different levels (1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place)
and the overall trophies were about as unique as many veteran
runners have ever seen. They were wood stools with the
The DJ showed up and played a full variety of music, the
BBQ and egg rolls were tasty and the beer was smooth. Later
in the afternoon the bon fire was blazing. A good time was
had by all. Thank you all for your participation, support
and also to all Heritage Lake residents.
